Smart Car Technology - Green car technologies are going to replace the ICE or Internal Combustion Engine. The ICE is on it's way out, within a few short years peak-oil is going to push the price of oil to levels never seen before. Also the ICE is basically an inefficient way of producing power, rated at approx. 10 to 40% efficiency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internal_combustion_engine#Energy_efficiency

One of the cheapest and most efficient changes that could be made to all cars now is Stop Start Technology which can improve vehicle efficiency by 5% to 15%.

Hybrid cars have been and still are a stepping stone away from gasoline driven ICE cars, and probably the next major step is electric powered cars, the Chevy Volt which is now on sale and also the Nissan LEAF.

As the price of oil goes up, consumers will be drawn towards more fuel efficient vehicles and car makers will keep developing better clean green technologies to help with both the environmental benefits and also to move away from dirty oil.

There are many people that are already running their cars directly from clean renewable energy such as solar, and wind.
