The Toyota Prius is a hybrid electric mid-size car developed and manufactured by the Toyota Motor Corporation. One thing to remember you don't currently plug the Prius into a electric socket, the ICE charges the batteries. The Toyota Prius hybrid is the most fuel efficient gasoline car currently sold in the U.S. according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The California Air Resources Board rate the Prius as among the cleanest vehicles sold in the United States based on smog forming and toxic emissions. People give all sorts of reasons why they won't buy a Prius:The battery won't last. - Answer: Toyota guarantee the battery for 8 years and most of the 1st generation Prii batteries are still working fine.
The Prius is too expensive. - Answer: We bought ours second hand 3 years ago for less than half its original value and its saved us a heap of gasoline and greenhouse gases.
Won't I have to plug it in each night? - Answer: The standard Toyota Prius doesn't require plugging in, you just fill up with gasoline at the gas station. If you buy a plug in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) or a full electric vehicle (EV) then you'll need to plug it in but we see that as a benefit, no more queuing for gas or breathing in toxic gasoline fumes!Update 2011: The 50MPG Prius has been moved aside now that the Nissan LEAF electric has been released, the 99 MPG LEAF now holds the top spot on the Top Green Cars USA listing. The Prius is still an awesome car, beautifully engineered and a very green car, especially if you need to drive on longer trips which are the LEAF's limitation at this stage.
