Mitsubishi iMiEV electric
The Mitsubishi iMiEV electric (pronounced eye-mev) which stands for Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle. This little beauty is a very small electric car, 3.4m long, but it still carries 4 adults in comfort.Fast facts: Power output - 47kW Driving range - 100 miles (160 kms) Fuel - Electric lithium-ion batteries Seating - 4 persons This is a perfect car for everyday around town use, it has a top speed of 82mph (132km/h), so easily keeps up with gasoline vehicles on the highway. Power comes from a 47kW electric motor, powered by 16kWh of lithium batteries. The batteries are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and come with a ten year manufacturers wararanty. The car can be charged up from a 240v domestic socket in around 6 hours - or 'fast charged' from a dedicated charging station in around 20 minutes. A full charge will cost approx. $2.40 and remember if you use solar power this car is "totally" emission free, that's right no green house gases except in production. If you don't have solar power or if you're not using green power from your utility company and charging this vehicle overnight, then this is still using power that is off-peak. Coal power stations can't shut down when the demand falls after hours, so much of the power generated during the night is wasted. Mitsubishi are the now first car maker in Australia to import an all electric production vehicle into the country, in July 2010 they landed around 40 iMiEV's to be initially leased to government and businesses.
