GM Volt
The GM Volt or Chevy Volt is probably the most anticipated green car in the world at the moment, this vehicle could turn the tide for American carmakers. Due for release in late 2010 the Volt is expected to cost around US$40,000 less a $7,500 federal tax credit. In Australia the Volt will be sold under the Holden badge and is expected for release in 2012. GM describes the Volt as an electric vehicle which it basically is, the gasoline engine is only to recharge the batteries for longer trips. Update for 2011: the Chevy Volt is now on sale in America with their website showing a US$40,280 msrp (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price). As we hear sales numbers we will update our website, GM expect to produce around 10,000 to 15,000 cars in 2011. Electricity costs for running the car per day are reported at around $1.50 per day based on 12 cents/kW.
