Blade Electron electric car
Blade Electron - Currently (2011) Australia's only electric vehicle that is available for sale (the iMiEV is available for lease for businesses only), the Electron is converted from a Hyundai Getz small car by removing the gasoline engine (ICE) and installing an air cooled 35kw brushless induction electric motor, made in USA. Also installed are a controller with regenerative braking and 16kWh of non-combustible Lithium Iron Phosphate (Li Fe PO4) batteries. Owners of the Electron have shown the cost of running their electric vehicle are just 97c for every 100km, versus a petrol Getz's $12 for every 100km. Fast facts: Power output - 35kW Driving range - 60 miles (100 kms) Fuel - Electric lithium-ion batteries Seating - 4 persons It is worth noting that 75% of driving trips are less than 40 km. So electric cars are perfect for these trips, creating zero emissions at the vehicle and also zero at generation if you use green power at home.
Blade electric cars are produced in the small town of Castlemaine in Victoria, Australia. If you want to purchase the Electron contact Ross Blade at

Blade have also announced that in 2011 they plan to release the Blade Runner which from the photos shown appears to be based on the much newer looking Hyundia i20 small car platform. Offering an increased Australian produced drivetrain of around 80%, it is expected to have its range extended to around 240km before plugging in for a renewable energy recharge.
